er...its been available on the test server, has it not? Trying it out now. Seems similar, just have to press 'shift' once to get the arrows up to move probes as a group (dont hold shift, just press and release and arrows appear...)

If you do the tutorials, you end up with a crapload of starter ships, a good skills foundation and a happier wallet. Also some experience in a few aspects of the game. That being said, joining a good, active corp is also important as other pilots...
